rpg/Relic/Margaret Fuller's Notebook
Less than a dozen of these notebooks exist, and although they vary in appearance, they generally take the form of weathered oilcloth covered notebooks with a leather tie to keep them closed. Most are monogrammed with the faded initials "MF". There appears to have been writing on all of the pages at one point, but the ink has been washed away to illegible marks. The paper is distressed, as if it had been soaked in water for a period of time.
Three times a day the bearer may interview somebody with the notebook, asking a specific question that is worded in such a way to invoke honesty or the truth. Writing the answer down will reveal the veracity of the statement. Statements that are firmly belived by the interviewee will appear clean and crisp on the notebook. Outright lies will cause pencil to smear or the ink to run into a unreadable mess. Shades in between truth and a lie affect the written words as well, being more distressed the more reply varies from the truth.
Note that the truth presented is the subjective truth, not the absolute truth. The writing responds to what the person being queried believes.
Drawback: Having asked for the truth, the person writing in the notebook will reflexively answer any question with a short and honest answer without regard to the concequences.
Mechanic: Roll Perception + Willpower. On success the notebook works. On failure, it misleads.
Bathing the notebook in the seawater overnight will clear the contents of the notebook.
